Return From Brazil
Abbot John and Fr. John Eudes returned home the other day from the joyful celebrations at our daughter house in Brazil, tired but happy. The raising of Novo Mundo to the status of an abbey and the blessing of Dom Bernardo as first abbot went very well. Several local bishops, religious and friends of the abbey were present for the historic occasion.

In chapter this morning Abbot John gave us a rundown of our brothers there including the good news of continuing prosperity and a steady flow of vocations. May they continue to prosper and be fruitful!

NATRI-LRCR MEETING
Tomorrow morning our prior, guestmaster and legal resource person, Fr. Jerome, will head out to Denver for the annual meeting of the Legal Resource Center for Religious, a helpful legal resource group to which we belong. He is due back late Friday night. The mission statement of the LRCR states the purpose of the organization well:

The Resource Center for Religious Institutes serves to enhance the living of religious life by providing integrated education, advocacy, and consultation to meet current and emerging stewardship responsibilities.

On Retreat
Also on Monday our novice, Br. Edward will go on retreat in preparation for making his first profession December 8th. A high point of the retreat for him will be spending several days out in the hermitage. Keep him in prayer as he prepares to enter the next phase of monastic formation as a junior professed.

THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE
In keeping with our usual custom Mass on Thanksgiving Day will be at 9:45 AM. We'll be baking on Monday instead of Tuesday that week. You'll find details of the change on our Daily Schedule Page.

Lectio Notebook

Without doubt, holiness is our greatest ecological contribution. Without it, we shall never balance the needs and rights of our diversified world. Holiness is restoration of order in its most searching and creative form, and unfailing source of respect for others.

The reason why Francis (St. Francis of Assisi) is such an appropriate patron for ecological movements is not so much because he preached to the birds and rescued worms from the dangers of the road, but because he approached all that is made with a respect bordering on reverence.
