This morning the Genesee community re-elected Rev. Gerard D'Souza for his third six year term. First elected on May 30, 2012, Rev. Gerard is the sixth abbot of Genesee. Born in Qatar to parents from India, Rev. Gerard studied psychology at the Univeristy of Bombay, spent time in seminary studies in Mumbai and later earned an M.A. in Religious Studies from the Institute of Religious Studies in Dunwoodie, Yonkers. He entered the Abbey of the Genesee in 1992 and took his solemn vows in 1999. He underwent further studies at Catholic University of America, and in 2001 was ordained by Bishop Clark at the Abbey.
Over the past twelve years in office Rev. Gerard has combined personal warmth and spiritual depth with organizational (and musical) gifts that have greatly enhanced life at Genesee. The community is grateful for his good leadership and his willingness to serve for another term.
